  1. What is the significance of Cormac McCarthy’s past in terms of the overtly violent themes in his writing? It seems to me like horrible violence is something he’s fixated on and it led me to wonder where that’s coming from.

  2. I think that the video we watched today had a lot of interesting points. One thing they said that really stood out to me was that the kid was a test of humanity. We all have a conscience, some of us just act on certain things different than others. The kid was one of the most compassionate members of the gang; he was one of the only ones that helped hurt people. I think the people in the book club said that he was a test of humanity because he demonstrates the struggles found in our good and bad inclinations in life due to his childhood and situation. He demonstrates our inner conflict on doing the right thing.
